Licenciado en Ciencias Matemáticas (1982-1987) y Doctor en Ciencias Matemáticas (especialidad Geometría Diferencial) por la Universidad de Granada (1991). Su labor docente se ha desarrollado en un periodo de más de 35 años. De 1987 al año 2012 ejerció como profesor de Matemáticas en la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales (ETEA) adscrita a la Universidad de Córdoba, y desde el año 2012 a la actualidad como profesor del Departamento de Métodos Cuantitativos en la Universidad Loyola Andalucía, impartiendo diferentes asignaturas en el área de Matemática Aplicada en los grados en Administración y Dirección de empresas y Economía. Es autor del libro Introducción a las Matemáticas para la Economía que ha sido utilizado como manual de la asignatura en Facultades de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales en varias universidades españolas. Su actividad investigadora se ha desarrollado en dos periodos diferenciados por su temática. En 1991 defiende su tesis doctoral titulada Superficies Maximales en el espacio de Lorentz-Minkowski dirigida por el profesor Dr. Alfonso Romero Sarabia en el Departamento de Geometría Diferencial y Topología de la Universidad de Granada. En este periodo su investigación se centró en el campo de la Geometría Diferencial estudiando las propiedades de las superficies de curvatura media cero en espacios no-euclídeos, destacando sus publicaciones en revistas especializadas del área como:? Mathematical Proceedings of Cambridge Philosophical Society, Geometriae Dedicata, Tsukuba Journal of Mathematics, Classical Quantum Gravity y Commentarii Mathematici Helvetici. Tiene publicado el libro: Superficies maximales en el espacio de Lorentz-Minkowski. Desde el año 2002 a la actualidad su labor investigadora se ha desarrollado en el área de Ciencias de la Computación e Inteligencia Artificial, concretamente en el campo de la computación evolutiva y las redes neuronales evolutivas. Sus trabajos han abordado diferentes temáticas como: los problemas de clasificación y regresión mediante Algoritmos evolutivos con Redes Neuronales Unidades Producto, clasificación de Series temporales, algoritmos multiobjetivo y clasificación ordinal, con aplicaciones a la economía, agronomía y ciencias de la salud. Ha participado como investigador en numerosos proyectos nacionales y europeos. De forma paralela a la actividad docente e investigadora señalada anteriormente, ha desarrollado una intensa labor de gestión académica en la universidad durante 25 años. Primero como Jefe de Estudios de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales (ETEA) desde 1995 a 2002 y desde 2008 a 2012. Posteriormente como Vicerrector de Ordenación Académica de la Universidad Loyola desde su creación en 2012 hasta octubre de 2023. En este último periodo ha estado encargado de la organización docente y la puesta en marcha de todos los títulos de grado y dobles grados impartidos en la universidad, con responsabilidad principal en los procesos de verificación, seguimiento y acreditación de los títulos, en la creación de la unidad de Formación e Innovación Docente, en los procesos de evaluación de la actividad docente del profesorado y del programa Docentia, además de la organización de los sistemas de garantía de calidad de los títulos y del proceso de acreditación internacional AACSB.
