Abstract The Church is immersed in a global crisis because of the abuses in its midst. The social alarm generated, not only by sexual crimes but, above all, by the ecclesial way of managing them, has allowed us to recognise, on the one hand, that we are facing a structural problem and, on the other hand, that the abusive dynamics are even more and are not limited to those of a sexual nature. Like any crisis, this situation hides opportunities for growth and challenges theology to rethink and deepen some of the issues that lie beneath this problem. Using two Greek terms with Johannine resonances, sarx and logos, we will propose some of these theological challenges as part of two processes of purification that the ecclesial community must go through invited by the crisis of abuse: conversion to sarx and to the logos. © 2025 Instituto Teologico de Murcia.
