Development and Internal Validation of a Multivariable Prediction Model for Anxiety and Depression Among Cervical Cancer Survivors at a Tertiary Hospital in Seville, Spain

Abstract

PurposeTo determine the prevalence of anxiety and depression in cervical cancer survivors and to create a predictive model for their occurrence.MethodsBetween January 2010 and January 2019, we conducted a prospective cohort study at a tertiary hospital. One hundred and six participants were recruited. The FACT-Cx v4.0 questionnaire and the HADS were employed for monitoring emotional well-being and anxiety/depression, respectively. The statistical software R was used and a binary generalized linear model was applied.ResultsDepression, anxiety, and mixed anxiety-depressive disorder were diagnosed in 12.67%, 6.06%, and 6.57% of the study population, respectively. Comorbidities, previous depression, FIGO stage, and the personal and concerns domains of the FACT-Cx were the predictors. The developed generalized linear model was reliable (C-index = 0.84), well-fitting (HL GOF p = 0.316), and internally validated.ConclusionsDepression, anxiety, and mixed anxiety-depressive disorder were diagnosed in 12.67%, 6.06%, and 6.57% of cervical cancer survivors, respectively. Comorbidities, previous depression, FIGO stage, and the personal and concerns domains of the FACT-Cx were the predictors for their occurrence.
