Abstract This paper presents an approach to the secretariat of the Universal Office through the secretaries who occupied this job during the reign of Felipe I V. We propose to know who they were and to check if there were patterns shared. Born in the seventeenth century, this secretariat had an enormous importance to strengthen the power of the favorite in the Hispanic Monarchy and, once these disappeared, to streamline the tasks of government. Knowing who these secretaries were will allow us, therefore, to deepen the power structures of the Spanish top management. © 2019 Ediciones Universitarias de Valparaiso. All rights reserved.
