Abstract

The idea of reality spread by cultural products follows a global dynamic typical of the American creed, which is based on liberalism. This value system, which highlights individuality, personal effort, economic freedom and equal opportunities, becomes an ideological benchmark that crosses borders and travels to other societies. This creates tension between the American ideological transfer and the prevailing values in cultures such as the Spanish one, where concepts such as collectivity or community solidarity are traditionally prioritized to guarantee rights and public services. Based on the above, the main objective of this document is to identify whether the ideologemes of liberalism prevail in the survival reality show El conquistador through a qualitative discourse analysis methodology consisting of an ideological analysis of the program. As a result, the narrative of El conquistador exhibits ideological features that link it to liberalism, following typical characteristics of the American creed. The show represents the social learning ability, typical of reality shows and encourages such transfer of values throughout its course. The core stamps of liberalism, especially individualism, are established as the common thread of the narrative. © 2025, Universidad del Rosario. All rights reserved.
