Abstract

In the last century, the European Union initiated a project of social, economic and legal convergence in order to expedite the free movement of people and goods. In this framework, it was created the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Furthermore, universities were invited to rethink degree curriculum in collaboration with the business sector, agreeing that undergraduates should acquire skills enough to enhance their employability. In this context the concept of "competence" was coined. So, education at universities has been considered as the development of a competences profile or an evaluable set of knowledge, attitudes, values and skills that will allow students to get professional work and adapt their capabilities appropriately to real work situations. According to the map of competences proposed in Psychology degree White Paper (by Spanish National Assessment Agency, called ANECA) and the proposed skills assessment by Villa and Poblete (2007), seven competencies (learning orientation, use of ICT, management of foreign language, interpersonal communication, teamwork, innovation and ethical sense) have been selected. According to some methodological references, a list of observed behaviors related with the selected skills have been designed. This paper develops an instrument to evaluate and analyze the progressive acquisition of skills during the university formation. A questionnaire of seven competences based on 60 observed and quantifiable behaviors has become elaborated and validated. This questionnaire has been filled in by undergraduates in Psychology at Loyola University Andalusia. Results showed that the instrument presented excellent psychometric properties and constitutes an useful tool to elaborate a profile of competences and to know the progressive development during university education.
