This paper analyses the guarantees in entrance examinations to the first stages of the academic career in Spain in the light of the most recent case law, paying special attention to the changes that have occurred with the entry into force of the new Organic Law of the University System. Specifically, it analyses the basic requirements of publicity of the calls for applications, the rules relating to the criteria for the evaluation and the profiling of posts, the criteria for the composition of the selection committees and, finally, the administrative and jurisdictional possibilities available to candidates to challenge both the actions of the selection committees and their decisions, paying special attention to the potential scope of these control mechanisms.
