Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the terms flesh (sarx) and body (soma) in the Fourth Gospel. For this purpose, we analyze each of the frequencies of the terms in the Gospel and interpret their meaning in the light of the Gospel as a whole and other biblical testimonies. Flesh and body have a specific meaning in Johannine theology. For a long time, these terms have been given a value shared with that given to them by other theological currents of the New Testament, such as the Pauline or the Synoptic. However, for the Fourth Gospel they are concepts that have a strong Christological significance and evidence respectively the humanity and divinity of Jesus. © 2025 Instituto Teologico de Murcia.
