Abstract

This article highlights that Augustine of Hippo's response to the Manichaean Faust not only unveils a debate surrounding the Old and New Testaments but also brings to light a doctrinal discussion in which two Christologies and two ways of understanding salvation go head to head. An analytical study of select books in the work demonstrates that defending the faith in the incarnation is one of the most important yet insufficiently studied themes in this Augustinian text.
