Abstract

This study examines the underlying logic of the EFQM 2020 Model analyzing the relationships between the three core blocks (Direction, Execution, Results) and the criteria encompassed within these three dimensions. This research is a pioneering application of the EFQM 2020 model. Data were obtained from a survey to the organizations responsible for the management of rural development in Spain. Using Structural Equation Modeling, the research examines how the criteria within these dimensions facilitate the achievement of sustainable and outstanding results. Additionally, Importance-Performance and Necessary Conditions Analyses were employed to identify the critical prerequisites for implementing the model in the management of rural development. The findings contribute to the ongoing discussion about management excellence by providing a structured framework to better understand how the EFQM Model is applied. This approach also highlights the role of stakeholder engagement for the successful implementation of the model. The objective is twofold, first, to verify whether the essence of the EFQM Model and its inspirational principle are fulfilled; second, to carry out an exploratory analysis of the relationships between the various criteria of the Model within the framework of how Local Action Groups manage territorial development.
