The research group Optimization and Control of Distributed Systems (ODS) aims at producing novel scientific results, both in theoretical and experimental perspectives. On the one hand, ODS research group is concerned with the modelling, simulation, estimation and control of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). CPSs are networked intelligent systems embedded with sensors, controllers, and actuators, which are designed to interact with the physical world and human users with the aim of supporting real-time management and guaranteed performance in safety critical applications.
This theoretical line feeds two experimental research areas. Firstly, the use of fleets of autonomous water vehicles as a platform to carry out different missions in rivers, lakes or reservoirs, with a sustainability goal at mind. Secondly, ODS research team is interested in the digitalization of the agricultural sector, moving to the so-called Smart Agriculture. The use of IoT based devices, together with Artificial Intelligence methods, is exploited in the pursuit of an optimized and sustainable management of water and other inputs.
