Ana Mercedes López Rodríguez holds a PhD in Law from the University of Aarhus (Denmark, 2002) and a Law degree from the University of Seville (Spain, 1997). She is a tenured professor ( Profesora Titular de Universidad , accredited by ANECA since 2013) of Private International Law, Comparative Law, and Arbitration at Universidad Loyola Andalucía (since 2013). She previously held positions at the University of Aarhus (Research Assistant, PhD Fellow, Assistant Professor, and Tenured Associate Professo r, 1998–2011) and the University of Seville (Interim Professor, 2010–2011). At Loyola, she served as Head of the Law Department and is currently Coordinator of the Law Degree. She also holds a tenured senior legal manage r position in the Andalusian Regional Administration (Cuerpo Superior de Administradores Generales de la Junta de Andalucía, on leave since 2013). Ana has been a visiting professor in EC Socrates Intensive Programs at LUISS (Rome) and Université François-Rabelais (Tours), and a visiting scholar at Loyola University Chicago School of Law and Stanford Law School (highly competitive program).Her research and teaching focus on international commercial and investment arbitration , private international law , comparative law , EU law, and digital law , with pioneering work on digital transformation (AI, smart contracts, NFTs, metaverse, blockchain). She speaks Danish, English, German, and Spanish. She has authored numerous publications with prestigious publishers (Brill/Nijhoff, Tecnos, Wolters Kluwer) and in high-impact JCR-indexed journals, including Transnational Environmental Law (Q1), Brooklyn Journal of International Law (Q1), Journal of International and Comparative Law, Nordic Journal of International Law, and European Energy and Environmental Law Review. Key works include Derecho Comparado y Digitalización (Tecnos, 2021) and Resolución de Conflictos en el Metaverso (Tecnos, 2025). She holds two research sexenios (CNEAI 2014 and 2019, applying for a third in 2026). Ana is Investigator Principal (IP) in the Horizon Europe project FromLab2School4All (2024–ongoing), where she addresses legal and ethical risks in the use of AI to adapt accessible educational materials, applying her expertise in private international law and comparative law to cross-border regulatory challenges in digital education. She coordinates the ADR curriculum in Loyola's full-time Master's in Law programs. She supervises 5 doctoral theses (one co-supervised with the University of Messina, Italy) and has directed over 10 Master's theses. She teaches in doctoral programs at the University of Messina, Universidad Loyola Andalucía, and Florida International University (Miami). She previously coached the Aarhus team in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Ana serves as an independent arbitrator and arbitrator on the ASEMARB roster, reviewer for international journals and research funds (Austrian Science Fund/FWF, Italian ANVUR), and member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Fundación de Inteligencia Artificial Legal (FIAL). She provides legal reports for firms and authorities in Denmark, the UK, Spain, and Finland. Her work has been recognized with awards, including a prize for her doctoral thesis and the I Premio ANPIER for Young Academics on Regulatory Risk. She has organized major international congresses on arbitration and digital law.
