| Abstract |
Objective: Since the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women in 1994, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been at the center of international proclamations and academic research on combating sexual violence against women in situations of armed conflict. Considering that sexual violence against women remains in the dynamics of the Congolese conflict, this research aims to settle a response to the perpetuation of sexual violence against women in the East of the country by establishing a causal link between the former factor and the participation of women in the United Nations Organization Mission for the Stabilization of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). Methodology: We will conduct a case study research through the analysis of public documents and of an academic nature. Results: It is concluded that there is an apparent link between the lack of women in MONUSCO and the continuous perpetration of sexual violence against women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, highlighting the need to introduce a gender perspective when addressing the problem. Contribution: The research involves the incorporation of a multidimensional analysis into the literature, hence contributing to new approaches to the eradication of sexual violence against women in conflict settings. © 2021, Centro Universitrio Curitiba - UNICURITIBA.
