Abstract

The human resource (HR) literature has discussed work engagement (WE) in detail; however, limited work has been done to measure the role technology plays in in facilitating various benefits of employees in return for the WE shown by them for the firm. The present study used social exchange and servant leadership frameworks to assess how various benefits affect employees' WE behaviour, which in turn will influence workplace performance (WPP) in the hospitality context. The study also determines how AI enabled servant leadership (ASL) affects these relationships as a moderator. The study used Smart PLS-SEM to test the hypotheses and analysed the 964 responses collected from hospitality employees representing 12 different countries. The study findings revealed that functional benefits substantially influence WE more than economic benefits. The study further explores the challenges to maintaining relationship quality. The study determined no moderating impact of ASL on the association between various rewards and WE, highlighting poor or low awareness level. The study offers several theoretical implications for the base theories used and some practical implications for the hospitality sector.
