Abstract

Objective: To examine the influence of exercise during pregnancy on the gestational age in weeks at the time of delivery and the number of preterm delivery in the scientific literature. Material and methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis, only randomized clinical trials were examined. Gestational age in weeks and the number and percentage of preterm delivery were analized. Results: We analyzed 43 studies and found a minimal effect between moderate exercise during pregnancy and duration of pregnancy (95% IC=-0.11, .03; I2 = 54,1%, Pheterogeneity = 0.001). On the other hand, the studies also showed that the inactive women present a 7 % more probability of suffer a preterm delivery (RR = 0.93 [95% IC= .79 – 1.09] I2= 0.0 %, Pheterogeneity= 0.918). Conclusions: Moderate exercise during pregnancy shows no association with the duration of pregnancy at the time of delivery and reduces the incidence of preterm delivery. © 2019, Sociedad Espanola de Ginecologia y Obstetricia.
