Abstract

This article aims to highlight the philosophical mediations in which the doctrine of revelation has been presented in the theology of Rahner and Balthasar, attempting to emphasise the “formal–fundamental principle” that gives unity and internal coherence to their theological proposals. K. Rahner takes up the anthropocentric turn of the last few centuries in a positive way and engages in a sincere dialogue with Kant and Heidegger, finding in the transcendental structure of the human being the mediation of his theology. H.U. von Balthasar finds inspiration in the arts and letters, and is seduced by Goethe and his appeal to Gestalt, considering Christ as the total figure in whom the mediation of his theology is expressed. The appeal to these authors may be relevant to legitimise the plurality of theological thought in the face of the danger of theological exclusivism. © 2026 Universidad Loyola Andalucia.
