Abstract

By "pharmacist non-prescription drugs counseling", we mean the pharmaceutical service that is given to a patient without knowing what non-prescription drugs must be acquired for a concrete minor symptom".OBJECTIVE: To characterize the patient population who are recipients of counseling for Non-Prescription Drugs in community pharmacies. METHODS: A descriptive study of 107 patients communities pharmacies, chosen by random sampling. RESULTS: The average patient age was 43 years and 63.8% were women; of this percentage, 62.3% came from locations with high socio-economic status. More than 60% had completed their primary education. CONCLUSIONS: The patients who more frequently asked for counseling were young adults who had completed primary and secondary education levels. For the most part, such patients had no pathologies or concomitant treatments and consulted because of respiratory complaints.
