History of Loyola University

The origin of the Loyola University was ETEA, School of Economic and Business Sciences in Córdoba, and its experience in higher education dates from 1963. The educative tradition of the Jesuits commenced with the beginning of The Society of Jesus itself in 1540. Its founder, Ignatius of Loyola, devoted himself to society through education, dialogue and the encounter of faith with science. The Company was the first religious order to found a university, The Roman College, in 1551. Today there are 238 universities and university centers in over 70 countries teaching more than 160,000 students of all religious affiliations.

The identity of the Loyola University, shared with the other centers of The Society of Jesus, is marked by its commitment to academic work from the conception of life and society marked by the evangelical values of freedom and respect, justice and solidarity, the search for truth, dialogue and tolerance, responsibility and participation.

Arrival

When do I have to be in Spain?

You must arrive in Spain the week prior to the start of classes in order to participate in our Welcome Session.

Will the university provide transportation from the airport?

If arrival at the airport and transportation to the city is a concern, please contact the International Relations office so we may place you in contact with your 360 buddy who can assist you with arrival questions you may have.

When does the Welcome Session take place?

The Welcome Session takes place the week before classes begin.

How will my grades translate?

Do I need to have a Spanish proficiency?

Yes. Students in the Dual degree program must obtain a B2 level of Spanish before graduation.

 

Will I have to register for classes online?

No. Courses are selected for you therefore there is no need to follow our regular registration process. The responsibility of the student is to turn in any inital documentation we may request in the spring prior to arrival.

 

Will I have a meal plan?

No. Students can eat on-campus in our cafeteria however there are no meal plans offered at the university. Students can purchase their lunches directly at the counter or bring their lunches and utilize microwaves located in the cafeteria to reheat food.

 

Will there be residence halls?

No. Our university does not offer living arrangements through the school. The International Relations office can assist students in finding a living arrangement however, it is the student’s responsibility to confirm the arrangement.

 

How much will my living expenses be?

While every student’s situation is different, we have found students can expect monthly expenses to be 600€ per month including housing.

 

Is there a school shuttle?

Yes. There is a shuttle connecting students from the arrival metro stop to the school however there is no shuttle from the city to the metro, students will be responsible for this part of the travel.

 

How do I arrive to the school campus?

From the city center, students can take the metro to the designated metro stop. From the metro stop, there is a school shuttle that will take students to the campus.

 

What transportation can I find in Seville and is there a student card?

In Seville, residents can make use of the public buses, trams, and metro lines. Additionally, there is a bike service called Sevici. There are student and other transportation cards that the city offers. For more information, please visit the Tussam city transportation site.

 

How do I pay my tuition to Universidad Loyola?

Tuition is paid to your home university, please contact your home university to understand the terms of your tuition.

 

Are there any scholarships available?

Universidad Loyola does not offer any scholarships.

 

Can I participate in work-study?

There are no work-study opportunities available at this time.

Why is my Visa only valid for 3 months?

This is because students are required to obtain a residence card once in Spain. Further instructions are listed in the When Arriving section.

 

Will I need any of the documents that I used to obtain my Visa?

Yes, it is highly recommended you bring copies of all documents the consulate required for your visa.

 

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille is a form of notarization. For Federal Background checks, this requires the requested background check be sent back to the Bureau in Washington to obtain this notary. For state checks, the corresponding reports must be sent to the necessary state departments.

When Arriving

 

Papers to Bring to Loyola

In order to complete registration, please bring with you any and all documents which the consulate has requested. These documents should be original where possible (ex. Passport) however copies of every document should be with you upon arrival in Seville.

An additional color passport-sized photo will be needed to issue your university ID card.

Registration

During the summer, the International Office will send an email requesting that your registration be completed however as a Dual participant, the finalization of registration will not take place until you are on campus in the fall.

While registering on campus, we will ask for you to present the following documents:

  • Background Checks
  • Passport
  • Passport Photo (x2)
  • Medical Insurance Card (Letter)

Please have a copy of your background check(s), passport, and medical insurance card (letter) to turn in to Loyola University. These should not be your only copies as the university will not return these copies to you.

Registration will most likely not occur until after the start of classes, please go to your classes as scheduled as you will be in the classes provided in your schedule.

In order to find the class schedule, please see the How To page. The fields you will need to enter are as followed:

  • Tipo de Titulación: Grado
  • Titulaciones: Chicago´s Management Program Incoming
Residence Card

Once you have received your Spanish Long Term Student Visa from the consulate, you may be notified or notice that the visa has an expiration date of 3 months. This is not an error, the Visa is made for the year of your studies however there are a few supplementary steps you will have to take once in Spain.

  1. Initial visit: Office of Foreigners (Oficina de Extranjeros)-Plaza de España
  2. Return the requested documentation and have your fingerprints taken
  3. Pick-up your residence card

This process must be started as soon as possible when in Spain. Universidad Loyola will make a group appointment therefore please contact them to know more information about when the group appointment will be.

You will receive your card 1.5-2 months after your arrival in Spain.

Before Leaving

 

Campus

Universidad Loyola has two campuses, one in Córdoba and the other in Seville. Students participating in the Dual program will be located at the Seville campus as this is the only campus which provides all required coursework.

The current campus in Seville will only be used until the end of the 2018-2019 academic year as we are constructing a new campus for the future years. This campus will be made accessible via the metro.

Coordinators

The International Relations office team will be your main correspondants leading up to and during your time in Spain. The main contact person will be Alejandra de Miguel Jones who is located at the Cordoba campus.

Living

The university does not offer residential services therefore there are no dormitories where students will be assigned for their stay.

Majority of international students partake in sharing an apartment with fellow students organized through external organizations. The International Relations office can assist students in finding and arranging their living situation however it is the student who is responsible.

Visa Requirements

In order to enter Spain and study for the academic year, students must obtain the proper Long-Term Stay Student Visa.

Generally students will be required to obtain the following documents in order to obtain their visa:
