Dr Jose L. Endrino graduated with MSc. and BSc. titles in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State University (USA) and received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire (USA) in 2003. During his PhD studies, he worked for a large R&D project on tribological coatings for aerospace sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Since the beginning of 2003 until the end of 2005, he worked as R&D Project Manager at the Tool Coatings Division of Oerlikon Balzers (Liechtenstein), the leading company in the sector of metallurgical PVD coatings. He was a visiting scientist and a Marie Curie Fellow at the       Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA). After joining the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (Spain), he received the Ramon y Cajal fellowship by the Spanish Research Council and was ranked top five in materials science. In 2011, Jose L returned to the industrial sector and worked as a senior scientist for Abengoa Research. Abengoa is an international company that applies innovative technology solutions to sustainable development in the energy and environment sectors, generating electricity from the sun, producing biofuels, desalinating sea water, and recycling industrial waste. Abengoa employs over 22,000 people worldwide. In 2014, he became Full Professor and Head of the Surface Engineering and Precision Institute (SEPi) at Cranfield University (U.K.) as Chair in Functional Surface Engineering where he led a team of 20 academics and was co-Director of EPSRC Centre of Doctoral Training in Ultra-Precision involving around 50 PhD students (2017-2019). Dr Endrino supported M- level courses at Cranfield University as a direct line manager of the Programme Director for the Manufacturing Technology and Materials MSc courses, which brought over 70 postgraduate students per year, he was involved in the enhancement of several MSc courses and was responsible for the laboratories used regularly by MSc students during  their group and individual projects. The Institute that he led at Cranfield University worked closely with industry, non-government organizations and government agencies to foster the use of functional coating systems and surface engineering as part of high-value manufacturing across a range of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, biomedical and mining with our client base varying from large multinational companies such as Rolls-Royce and Siemens to SMEs and micro-companies. In 2019, he returned to Spain. First, he joined the Basque Center for Materials as    Ikerbasque Research Professor, where he led the Functional Surfaces and Coatings group and, more recently, in September 2021, he joined la Universidad Loyola Andalucía in Seville as Research Professor (with 75% dedication) and the nanotech company Nano4Energy SL in Madrid as Innovation Manager (with 25% dedication). He is also a visiting Professor at Cranfield University in the U.K. where he is currently co-supervising a PhD student with Professor John R. Nicholls. Dr. Endrino has published over one hundred works in indexed journals, participated as inventor in 39 IP documents (based on 8 patent families) and has developed several surface engineered products within the industry. He has organized several international scientific conferences, workshops, and symposiums in his field, has been invited, and associate editor of various prestigious scientific journals. He is a member of Scientific Reports editorial board and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Throughout his career, Professor Endrino has Publication record of over 150 works published since 2002 including patent documents and      articles. He has a citation record of 3186 citations and Hirsch-index of 27 (received in highly applied articles, 39 international patent applications based on eight patent families and the value of R&D projects (for the last 10 years) is 5.1M Euros. He has 3 Journal Covers and organized 4 international conferences and symposia as leading Chair.
