Universidad Loyola, the top private University of social initiatives in Andalucía, promoted by the Compañía de Jesús, requires PhD candidate with interest in Circular economy, Innovation and sustainability within the PhD program of Sustainable and inclusive development. This is financed by University of Loyola and the candidate will receive the official PhD degree from Spanish ministry of science.

The project is connected to the research group Social Matters at ULA and Joint by co supervision at ESIC Business school in Madrid. The research project is supervised by Dr. Antonio Ariza Montes, and Dr. Morteza Yazdani as co-supervisor.

In this project, you will be investigating on theme of circular economy, Social innovation and sustainable development in industry and society.

This PhD student project will build on our research of business relationships and organizational management in sustainable context. You will be able to influence the direction of your research. We find many of our research ideas in collaboration with industrial partners and value industrial collaborations.

Our on-going research focuses for example on the influence of innovation and technology rules on circular economy approach and sustainable development. The focus is set on the interaction and the business relationships among in business markets, industrial society and social communities. Our research group benefits from close collaboration with the ETEA foundation and other relevant industries.

Major responsibilities

You will be part of the research group will work in collaboration with industry and be part of our transport research. As a doctoral student, you will conduct research, participate in doctoral courses and be involved in teaching activities at the division. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia, industry and with society at large. The research requires the applicant to interact with industry, have ability to plan and organize the work. You will develop your skills in communicating scientific results, both to the public and industry and through scientific publications.

Your main tasks as a PhD student are to:

  • Pursue your own doctoral studies
  • Contribute to research projects (normally in collaboration with industry)
  • Participate in PhD courses
  • Publish research results in scientific journals
  • Contribute to scientific conferences
  • Develop pedagogic skills and teaching experiences.

Position summary

Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of four years.


The position requires a Master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in, for instance, industrial engineering management, management and business sciences. We look for a student that, in addition to having a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter, has a strong motivation and engagement, a cooperative mindset, analytical skills (Knowledge of software in operation research like GAMS, MATLAB, Lindo is a plus), communication skills and a passion to combine theory and practice. We expect the applicant to be quality conscious and have the ambition to take on responsibility to work independently and in collaboration with both academic and industrial partners towards set goals. The position requires full professional proficiency in English and good writing skills. You will also need to acquire Spanish proficiency within 2 years, at Loyola University Language Institute. Experience from multi-stakeholder interactions and industry experience are meritorious.
